A Clash of Liberties

A recent post on this site explored the Canadian Association of University Teachers investigation of Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia, on the grounds that the university required its faculty to affirm their Christian faith.  Evidently Trinity Western University has committed the egregious (and intolerant) error of expecting its faculty to share the university’s Christian worldview.  This would endanger academic freedom, according to the CAUT.  The post calls to mind what is perhaps the next great political battle (at least on the cultural front): religious liberty.

I retired from the Navy on June 1, 2007 after twenty two years as a surface warfare officer. My last tour of duty was at the U.S. Naval Academy as a military instructor in the Political Science Department. I mostly taught the introductory government course; however, I also taught civil-military relations, political philosophy, and a senior seminar on the political thought of the American founding. 

In 2009 I earned my Ph.D. in Politics from the Catholic University of America where I teach as a lecturer. I am also a part time instructor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and the U.S. Naval Academy. I teach political philosophy, American political thought, and applied leadership.
