  • Opening: JIU seeks a president

    ISI has been approached by Glenn Jones, the founder of Jones International University (JIU), the first fully accredited online-only university (founded in 1993), for assistance in identifying top-quality, entrepreneurial candidates for the position of President of JIU. The University focuses on two subject tracks—business and education—and its offerings are aimed primarily at working professionals. Extensive experience in university leadership is required, and experience in online education is preferred. The University is committed to the view that a just and peaceful world is “most probable where free markets exist and freedom is abundant.”

  • Openings: Two Positions in Political Theory at American University

    The Department of Government in the School of Public Affairs at American University invites applications for two positions in political theory. Applicants may be considered for one or both positions, but should indicate their preference.

    The first position is a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in Political Theory for AY 2013-14 sponsored by the Political Theory Institute (see http://www.american.edu/spa/pti/). The postdoc will teach one undergraduate course per semester, one of which will be “American Political Thought” and the other a seminar based on the fellow’s interests. This position is not renewable.

    The second position is a one-year, non-tenure-track position in Political Theory for AY 2013-14 at the rank of Professorial Lecturer. The teaching load for this position is three-three, including teaching multiple sections of our introduction to political theory class called “Individual Freedom vs. Authority” as well as “Feminist Political Thought.” There may also be the possibility of teaching a seminar on the candidate’s interests. This position is possibly renewable.

    Successful candidates for both positions should have a strong commitment to teaching and the potential for excellence in scholarly research. For both positions we are open to the field of scholarly specialization, but the candidate must have a broad background in the history of political thought and be able to teach the specified courses. Both positions include a competitive salary, full health benefits, and a travel allowance. AU is located in Washington, DC, and in 2012 The Princeton Review ranked AU students the most politically active in the nation.

    Wake Forest University seeks to fill an immediate opening for the position of Executive Director of the BB&T Center for the Study of Capitalism.  Located within the nationally-ranked School of Business, the Capitalism Center sponsors curriculum development, research, speakers and conferences, and extra-curricular events that further understanding of free markets and capitalism. The Executive Director will coordinate the planning and administration of efforts to develop a compelling and meaningful program about capitalism and free markets that helps distinguish the University and the School of Business in the preparation of future leaders of business and society. This individual will oversee these efforts with special focus on their impact on business school curriculum development, scholarly research, and relevance for business school faculty and students at all levels (undergraduate, MBA, executive MBA).

    Ideal candidates should possess knowledge of business and economics, political science, or philosophical origins of capitalism and competing systems. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Business, Economics or other field related to capitalism and free markets are preferred. Previous experience in program administration, teaching, and fundraising is desirable.
